Electrician Old Fort, NC
Under the direction of the Electrical Supervisor, this employee designs, constructs, repairs, and maintains our electrical systems so they operate at peak performance. Analyzes and corrects electrical problems as well as repairs and overhauls electrical equipment and controls. All work must meet electrical code requirements and be performed in a safe and professional manner. Reports any safety concerns or any repairs beyond capability to Electrical Supervisor immediately. Education - High School Diploma or GED to include Algebra
- College/Technical training as industrial electrician preferred
Qualifications - Journeyman Manufacturing Plant Electrical License
- Able to read and understand hydraulic blueprints
- Knowledge/experience with computer systems, instrumentation and programmable controls preferred
Physical Requirements - Frequent walking through the plant on various surfaces, grades, steps
- Frequently lifts/exerts force of 20 lbs, occasionally up to 50 lbs
- Frequently use hands and arms at various angles to do detailed work
- Frequently works at awkward angles or in tight spaces
- Occasionally uses hands, arms, feet, legs to operate mobile equipment
- Frequently stands to operate equipment and to perform various duties
- Occasionally sits to operate equipment or work in the shop
- Occasionally works at heights, requiring fall protection
- Occasionally works outside in all weather conditions
- Occasionally to frequently twists upper body/neck
- Ability to climb overhead structures, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work.
Travel Requirements - Occasionally for training/benchmarking
Duties - Plans details of working procedure by determining replacement needs or new materials required and develops a logical approach to correct the problem.
- Analyzes circuits, wiring diagrams and drawings to install, repair, calibrate, service or replace electronic devices and systems.
- Receives wiring diagrams, specifications and instructions from Supervisor covering emergency and scheduled repairs, installation and electrical inspection work to perform.
- Performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical theory and principles, statutory codes, propertied of materials and principles of operation of electrical equipment. Start up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.
- Services electronic equipment by checking, testing and replacing faulty components, circuits, printed circuit boards and similar electronic devices.
- Installs, repairs and maintains communication cables, power distribution cables and then splicing pieces as required.
- Fabricated parts id not commercially available using machine and hand tools common to the trade.
- Determines needs for, analyzes and makes necessary running adjustments, repairs and overhauls.
- Advises and cautions operators and mechanics about potential electrical problems and inherent dangers involved.
- Notifies supervisor of potentially dangerous electrical equipment noted and corrective action taken.
- Rotates as member of overhaul planning team in preparation for semi-annual maintenance overhauls.
- May be part of a mechanical team on major installations, working with other trades such as machinist, pipe fitter, millwright, etc.
- On night shifts and weekends may be called on to do temporary repairs in millwright or pipe fitter work.
- Rotates as member of plant safety audit team inspecting for electrical problems.
- Responds to unscheduled downtime needs (radio/whistle calls)
- Seeks and completes training to increase job skills and stay current with technology
- Maintains record of repairs/activities so they may be communicated to other shifts
Other Information - Candidates must meet company's substance abuse testing requirements; as a safety-sensitive person, may be subject to random substance abuse checks.
- Valid state motor vehicle operator's permit to operate electrician's cart and forklift truck for installation jobs.
- High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances required. High degree of attention and care required to prevent injury to others when responsible for flow of electrical power. Exposed to high voltage electricity.
