Bright below-ground living space with Columbia Forest Products Birch plywood
What started as a practical decision became a design-forward transformation. After years of moving from place to place, Ryookyung Kim and Phil Chan sold their condo and turned an unfinished 1,200-square-foot basement into a warm, colorful living space with the help of One:1 Designs.
The project came with the common challenges of below-ground design: limited natural light, lower ceilings, concrete floors, and the need to make the space feel open, comfortable, and connected to the people living there.
One:1 Designs approached the renovation with a focus on warmth, simplicity, and personality, using material choices to counterbalance the basement’s more utilitarian structure.
Birch-faced PureBond® hardwood plywood from Columbia Forest Products became a key part of that transformation.
