In a perfect world, every shop would have unlimited time, space, and labor to finish panels in-house. In reality? Tight schedules, crowded spray booths, and talented crew members pulled in ten different directions are the norm.
Available through multiple Columbia mills, our UV finishing lines aren’t just about applying a protective coat. They’re about removing steps and helping shops move faster without sacrificing quality. And much, much more...
Here’s what that looks like in practice:
Color Matching and Painting – Solved Before the Panel Arrives
With CustomColors, staining and painting are taken off your shop’s shoulders. Columbia can produce Pantone-matched panels for customers needing large quantities of the same look. Customers can specify their exact color with confidence, knowing Columbia’s team will ensure every sheet arrives ready to install.
These colors are blended with the UV coating chemistry to ensure visual consistency and are available in translucent or solid color options.
When “Durable” Isn’t Durable Enough
Some environments demand more than a standard finish. UV LabCoat™ is engineered specifically for applications that require lab-grade chemical resistance and long-term durability. Used primarily in laboratories, schools, and healthcare facilities, LabCoat™ complies with Scientific Equipment and Furniture Association (SEFA) standards—making it suitable for critical, regulated spaces where performance isn’t optional.
Get The First Step of Painting Out of the Way
Priming often creates the biggest bottleneck in cabinet production. FirstStep™ was designed to eliminate it.
FirstStep™ panels arrive pre-primed and ready to paint, letting shops skip the first—and often most time-consuming—step in the finishing process.
Two options are available:
Ready To Paint™: Coated with a clear, VOC-free UV layer that requires no sanding at all—ideal for shops who are regularly painting large amounts of panels with solvent-based coatings.
This can be applied to hardwood veneer faced panels and to MDF-faced panels.
Traditional FirstStep™: White, pre-primed panels requiring a light 320-grit sanding before finishing with a water-based paints.
Either way, finishing starts faster, labor demands drop, and schedules stay on track.
