In 2024, Columbia Forest Products proudly introduced the CFP Internship Experience, a dynamic program designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application within our manufacturing facilities.
This initiative offers students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience while contributing to continuous improvement projects across the company. The internship allows students to immerse themselves in their chosen professional fields, gaining valuable skills and building meaningful connections that will benefit them as they prepare for their future careers.
Interns are encouraged to set personal and professional goals for their internship, culminating in a formal presentation to Columbia’s Leadership Team at the conclusion of the program. This presentation allows interns to showcase their achievements, insights, and contributions during their time with the company.
WHAT MADE YOU APPLY FOR AN INTERNSHIP AT COLUMBIA?
"A family member often shared how incredible their experience had been working at CFP. So, when I heard Columbia would be offering internships for Summer 2024, I knew I had to apply. It felt like the perfect opportunity to be part of a company I had heard so many great things about."
WHAT WAS YOUR OVERALL INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE LIKE?
"It was an incredibly rewarding experience. From the very beginning, I was involved in accounting-related tasks—such as accounts payable entries, accounts receivable reconciliations, and vendor-managed inventory support. My peers and supervisors were not only helpful but also involved in helping me understand Columbia’s industry and internal processes. I learned a great deal about my field and gained valuable insights that go beyond the classroom."
WHAT WAS IT LIKE ACCEPTING A JOB OFFER FROM COLUMBIA AFTER YOUR INTERNSHIP? HOW HAS THE TRANSITION BEEN?
"The culture made the decision easy. The people I work with are exceptional—both professionally and personally. During my internship and now as a full-time employee, my peers and supervisors have consistently taken on mentorship roles. Their support and guidance have had a meaningful impact on me and continue to shape my early career in a positive way."
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR FUTURE/PERSPECTIVE INTERNS?
Get involved, ask questions, and build meaningful relationships.
"An internship might lead to a job offer—but regardless of the outcome, the most valuable part is the learning experience. Take time to understand not just the company, but also yourself and where you thrive."
Through the development of the CFP Internship Experience, Columbia Forest Products is committed to nurturing our next generation of leaders.
