You can't see it on the surface, but it's in every panel in Columbia Forest Product's Classic Core® product line. Classic Core offers a voidless, engineered MDF composite crossband in a proprietary construction that adds an extra dimension to Columbia's veneer core hardwood plywood.

MDF crossbands when combined with inner plies of veneer core provide the smoothness of a composite core substrate with the lighter weight and strength of veneer core. Classic core machines and laminates beautifully so it's ideal for high profile applications including furniture, cabinetry and fixtures.

A surface that makes the difference

A Classic Core MDF crossband provides a smooth, hard surface of higher density than traditional veneer core which reduces the potential for core imperfections telegraphing through decorative veneer overlays. Classic Core also significantly reduces finishing problems stemming from allowed open knot holes or small, open joints under the hardwood veneer face in standard veneer core constructions. Fabricators should also consider Classic Core as a substrate for Columbia's prefinished UV Wood™.

with or without decorative veneers

Columbia's Classic Core line offers a complete range of Columbia decorative hardwood veneer species. Columbia also offers Classic Lam intended for laminating, custom veneer lay-up and paint applications. Classic Lam is the same MDF and veneer innerply construction without the decorative wood veneer overlays.

PureBond® Classic Core

For specifications calling for formaldehyde-free hardwood plywood technology, Columbia offers PureBond® Classic Core and PureBond® Classic Lam which are constructed with no added urea-formaldehyde (NAUF) MDF. As with our entire PureBond® line, these panels are compliant with LEED NC 2.2 credit EQ 4.4 calling for composite panel products with no-added urea formaldehyde.
